How to Grow 2x Flowers on Cineraria Plants? (5-CARE TIPS)

I tired to grow Cineraria flowers this year from seeds, and by following a few care tips, look what I achieved. All the Cineraria plants are blooming at their peak in just a 5-inch pot. In this post, I am going to discuss these Cineraria plant care tips that you can also follow to get similar results. So, let’s begin.

1-Plant at the Right Time!

Cineraria Plant Flowers

The first and most important thing for growing a lot of flowers on Cineraria plants is to follow the ideal season. Cineraria plants are very hardy; they are grown in cool areas.

The ideal temperature for these plants is below 25°C. A little coolness in the environment helps them grow fast. If you are trying to grow these plants during hot summer days, that is a very bad idea.

I live in a moderate climate region. The winter temperature goes as low as 8 to 10°C, while summers are very hot, with temperatures exceeding 45°C.

So, if you live in a similar region, you can easily plant Cineraria seeds or seedlings during winter and spring.

On the other hand, if you live in a region where temperatures go below zero in winter, you should not grow Cineraria during winter days. Instead, try growing Cineraria seeds or seedlings in spring.

The plants will get bigger in spring, and they can produce buds and flowers throughout early summer and even mid-summer. If the temperature exceeds 30°C, you can move them to a shaded spot to enjoy their flowering a little longer.

Overall, Cineraria is a cool-area plant that likes lower temperature ranges, so plan their planting accordingly.

2-Growing from Seeds vs. Seedlings?

Cineraria Seeds

If you are new to Cineraria flowers and want to grow this plant, I suggest you buy seedlings from a nursery during the growing season. They are very easily available.

Now, let me show you how I grew them from seeds. These are the seeds of Cineraria flower plants. I collected these seeds from my own plants last year, so they are fresh.

Make sure you buy seeds from an authentic source, as old seeds have a lower germination rate and produce weaker plants. You can find Cineraria seeds Here, if you want to buy them.

Use a good seed starter mix. You can sow the seeds as soon as the season starts. Place the seeds evenly apart. A good seed starter mix is also added Here, if you would like to follow it.

Cover the seeds with a thin layer of cocopeat. Do not bury them too deep. Keep the soil fully moist using a gentle spray bottle, as a strong water flow can displace the seeds, so be very careful. Place this tray in a bright spot away from direct sunlight.

After a few days, you will see tiny seedlings popping out of the soil. At this stage, sunlight is very important, so make sure they receive adequate light.

The seedlings will keep getting bigger. You can transplant them as soon as they have a few true leaves. These are seasonal plants; if you provide them with a bigger pot, the plant will grow much larger.

However, if you keep them in a smaller pot, they can still perform well, but the plant will remain smaller in size.

Growing Cineraria Plants

I am growing these plants in a 5- to 6-inch pot, which I think is enough. Keep the pots in a bright spot for a few days after transplanting.

You may not see good growth for a few days. As soon as the plants recover, you can move them back to a sunny spot.

Now the growth will be very fast. Within a couple of weeks, they will start producing buds and bloom into beautiful flowers.

3-Does Soil Media Matter?

Soil Mix Of Cineraria Plants

One of the most important things for maintaining good growth on your Cineraria plants all season long is the soil media. Soil media is fundamental. It should be well-draining, loose, and fertile.

Opposite qualities, such as poor drainage, hardness, and low fertility, are unhealthy for Cineraria plants. You can easily make a good soil mix at home by mixing sand, cocopeat, and simple garden soil.

This makes a perfect mixture. I grow all my plants in this type of mix. A detailed guide on this soil mix is also added Here if you would like to follow it.

4-Place Here for Maximum Budding!

Another very important factor for growing a lot of flowers on Cineraria plants is the ideal spot. If your plant is placed in an ideal location, it will grow very fast, resist most diseases on its own, and produce more buds and flowers.

Cineraria is a flowering plant, so it needs a lot of sunlight in order to produce buds and flowers. In a bright but shaded spot, you may see a few flowers.

However, for heavy flowering, you need a sunny spot that receives at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily. A full day of bright indirect sunlight can also work well. In low-light conditions, the plant will not survive properly. For flowering plants, a sunny spot is essential.

5-Fertilizer That Doubles Flowering!

Homemade Flower Fertilizer

By using a good fertilizer, you can definitely double the flowering on your plants. Cineraria is a winter-flowering plant, and it will produce flowers even without fertilization. However, you may see smaller, abnormal, and fewer flowers.

If you want your plants to be full of vibrant and healthy flowers, you definitely need a good fertilizer. By good fertilizer, I mean one that contains all the essential nutrients Cineraria plants need.

You can use kitchen compost, but that alone may not be enough. Last year, when I grew these plants, they did not perform well because of improper fertilization.

So, I formulated a fertilizer recipe that is ideal for seasonal flowering plants, and the results are in front of you. This fertilizer works much better. A detailed guide on making this fertilizer at home is also added Here. Feel free to follow it.

6-Deadheading = More Flowers?

Spent Flowers of Cineraria

This happens very commonly: we grow a plant, it produces flowers, and then suddenly the flowering stops. Here comes the role of deadheading. For seasonal plants, deadheading is very important.

They have a short life cycle in which they must produce seeds to continue their generation. As soon as seeds start forming, the plant reduces flowering.

So, to get continuous flowering all season long, you should remove spent flowers whenever you see them. This will also enhance the flowering of your Cineraria plants.

If you would like to collect seeds from your Cineraria plants, as I do, you can leave a few flowers on the plant at the end of the growing season.

They will produce seeds for you. This is how their seed pods look. Collect them carefully, place them in a dark and dry place, and grow them in the upcoming season.

So, that was all about the secrets of growing more flowers on Cineraria plants. If you would like to learn even more about how these growing tips work and how you can maximize flowering, I have made a detailed guide. You can buy it from here.
