5 Homemade Pesticides From Kitchen, That Control Pests & Insects!

Getting control over pests in your garden is one of the most frustrating things, especially for a beginner. But in this post, I’ll simplify this process for you. We will see five different natural pesticides from your kitchen, how to prepare them, and what’s the ideal way to apply them.
Garlic Spray;

Our first organic homemade pesticide is made using garlic. Garlic contains a strong scent, which is mostly hated by pests and insects. We can make a spray out of it and use it on our plants.
It is very effective, especially for early treatment. But it works only if used correctly. We will see that in just a bit. For now, understand that garlic spray can be used to treat mealybugs, spider mites, aphids, leaf miners, etc. In general, it’s great.

And here is the proper way to make it at home. Take a few garlic cloves, crush them into smaller pieces, and add them to water. Let it ferment for a few days. The garlic scent will dissolve into the water, and then you can spray this water on your plants.
Beginners often use pesticides in the wrong way. That is why they don’t easily get control over pests. But here is the secret application technique that nurseries use.

They apply pesticides to the plant in the early morning or during the evening, which enhances the effectiveness of the pesticide even more. Keep mixing the water bottle and spray evenly over the plant. You can also use it on healthy plants. It can be used once a week.
Onion Spray;

Another kitchen-based natural pesticide that is much more powerful for aphids and mealybugs is onion spray. Just like garlic, onion also contains a strong scent and taste, which are disliked by pests and insects.
When I first started growing plants, I often faced leaf miner attacks on my tomato seedlings. It was a bit difficult to treat during an attack.
What I learned is that prevention is better than treatment. You can also use onion spray as a preventive measure. Apply it once a week on all your plants. It’s an organic material and has no side effects at all.

For making it, use a small onion and crush it into smaller pieces. Add it to water and let it ferment for a few days. You can also extract onion juice by smashing it and mixing it with water. That way, the effectiveness will increase even more. Use it the same way.

But before applying this homemade pesticide to your plants, understand this: if used during sunny days, the leaves of the plants may start drying or burning. That’s the reason nursery experts never apply pesticides during the daytime.
If you’d like to increase the effectiveness of this onion spray, I’ll tell you a simple yet highly effective pesticide recipe at the end.
Dish Wash Spray;

One kitchen ingredient that can be used to make a pesticide is liquid soap. It’s very effective, especially when the attack is at its early stage. It works very efficiently. This soap layer wraps the insects as well as their eggs, suffocating them to death, and doesn’t harm your plants at all.
It’s very easy to prepare as well. Just take a few drops, or even half a tablespoon, in a liter of water. Mix really well and apply it all over your plants.
Whenever you apply a pesticide, make sure to keep stirring the liquid spray mixture and apply an even layer on the plant. You can use it for all kinds of plants, even vegetables. It won’t harm your plants at all.
Chili Pepper Spray;

Another organic pesticidal ingredient is chili pepper. Its strong taste and smell repel most kinds of insects and pests. But you need to make it very accurately.
Take up to a teaspoon of chili pepper powder in a liter of water. Mix really well. You can also let it ferment for a few days. Then spray it all over the plants.
One thing that beginners often miss while using pesticides is the underside of the leaves. And that’s the same reason why pests don’t go away even after using a pesticide.
So, follow nursery methods. Whenever they apply pesticides to plants, they spray thoroughly over and under the leaves. This way, no pest remains behind.
Besides their pest-control techniques, they also have an abundance of insights. In recent years, while visiting many nurseries and talking to their owners, I discovered many secrets that they use, which keep their plants so healthy and green.
I tried to compile all of these secrets into a book that you can buy from Here. It contains all the tricks and how you can apply them in your home garden.
Lemon Peels Powder;
One organic ingredient that is very effective for controlling soil insects is lemon peels. You can use any kind of citrus peel. Dry them in the sun and crush them into a powdery form, or use them as they are. Their scent creates a boundary around the plant.

To enhance the effectiveness of your pesticide even more, you can follow this simple recipe. Take garlic cloves and onion peels, smash them in a piece of cloth, and extract the liquid. Mix it with water.

Add a few drops of liquid soap to it. Mix really well, and your all-in-one organic and free pesticide is ready to use. It’s much more powerful than individual garlic or onion sprays. You can follow the same method to apply it to your plants.
These kitchen-based organic pesticides are a great way to start. But if you want to cure a serious pest attack on your plant, you need to use neem oil, as it is much more powerful than these free pesticides. A guide on making and using neem oil is linked right here.
